Privacy Policy
We explain what data is collected, how calculator inputs are handled, and how advertising cookies may be used.
The Short Version
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Bitumen Calculator ("we", "us", or "our"), operated by Big Techies, collects, uses, and protects information about you when you use our website and services. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Last updated: 25 July 2026.
2. Information We Collect
We collect two types of information:
2.1 Information You Provide Voluntarily
- Contact form: The form on our contact page does not submit anything to us. It assembles the details you typed into a draft message in your own email application, which you then choose to send or discard. Nothing reaches us unless you press send. Once you do email us, we hold your address and message for as long as it takes to deal with the enquiry.
- Calculator inputs: Your project dimensions and calculator inputs are processed entirely within your browser. They are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Server logs: Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard server log information, including your IP address, browser type, the page you requested, and the date/time of your visit. This data is used for security and operational purposes.
- Analytics data: We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-GCYLRZ2PQK) to understand aggregate usage — which calculators get used, which pages people arrive on, roughly which country they are in, and what device they are using. Google Analytics sets cookies containing a randomly generated client ID and processes a truncated form of your IP address. We do not upload names, email addresses or any other identifier to Google, and we do not use Analytics to build advertising audiences. Note that a client ID is pseudonymous rather than anonymous: on its own it does not name you, but it does distinguish one browser from another across visits.
- Cookies and advertising identifiers: We use essential cookies for basic functionality. Google AdSense and related Google advertising services may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve, measure, and improve ads.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your contact form enquiries
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service
- Monitor for and prevent security issues or abuse
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to prioritise new features
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information to:
- Build personal profiles or track individual behaviour
- Send unsolicited marketing emails
- Sell or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes
- Sell your personal information
4. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use the following types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Required for the website to function correctly. You cannot opt out of these without disabling the site.
- Analytics cookies: Set by Google Analytics 4 (typically
_gaand_ga_<container-id>) to distinguish visitors and sessions. Default retention on these cookies is up to two years. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking third-party and analytics cookies in your browser, or by using a tracker-blocking extension. Nothing on this site stops working if you do. - Advertising cookies: Google AdSense may use cookies such as the DoubleClick cookie to help serve ads, limit repetition, measure performance, and support fraud prevention.
We do not control third-party advertising cookies directly. You can manage cookies in your browser settings and review Google ad personalization controls at Google Ad Settings.
We use Google AdSense advertising. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve contextual or personalized ads, measure ad performance, prevent fraud, and comply with advertising policies. Learn more from Google advertising technologies.
5. Data Storage & Security
This is a static website. It has no database, no user accounts and no server-side form handler, so there is no store of visitor data to breach. The site is served over HTTPS/TLS. Email you send us sits in an ordinary mailbox; we keep enquiries for up to 12 months so we can follow up, after which they are deleted.
Calculator inputs are never transmitted to our servers and are not stored anywhere beyond your browser session.
Despite our best efforts, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Third-Party Services
We may use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Web hosting provider: Stores and serves website files. May retain server access logs.
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd / Google LLC): receives page-view and event data, a pseudonymous client ID, a truncated IP address, and technical details such as browser, device type and approximate location. Governed by Google's privacy policy; see also how Analytics handles data. Data may be processed in the United States.
- Advertising providers: Google AdSense and related Google advertising services may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. These providers have their own privacy policies.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
- Restriction: Request restriction of processing of your data
- Objection: Object to processing of your personal data
- Portability: Request transfer of your data in a machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us or email info@bitumencalc.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Google AdSense, the DART Cookie & Third-Party Vendors
This site is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- Google's use of the DART cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of the DART cookie and personalised advertising by visiting the Google Ads Settings page, or the Google advertising technologies page. Opting out does not remove ads — it makes them less relevant.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads here and may use their own cookies, web beacons and device identifiers. We do not control those cookies. You can opt out of many of them through aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google's own handling of data from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Advertising has no influence on the technical content of this site. No advertiser has any say over a default density, a mix recommendation or a comparison. See our editorial policy.
9. GDPR — Visitors in the UK, EU and EEA
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Union or the wider EEA, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR give you rights over your personal data. The data controller for this site is the site's operator, reachable at info@bitumencalc.com.
What we process and why. Server logs, including your IP address, are processed on the basis of legitimate interests — keeping the site running and secure. Email you send us is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in answering your enquiry. Advertising and analytics cookies that are not strictly necessary are set on the basis of consent, which you give or withhold through the cookie controls presented to you and which you can change at any time in your browser.
Your rights. You may request access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, portability, and you may object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting what was lawful beforehand. Requests go to info@bitumencalc.com and are answered within one month.
Complaints. If you think we have handled your data badly you may complain to your national supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU it is the data protection authority for your country.
Transfers. Our hosting and advertising providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards those providers publish.
10. CCPA / CPRA — California Residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you the following rights:
- Right to know what personal information is collected about you, the sources it came from, why it is collected, and who it is shared with.
- Right to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to the exceptions in the statute.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination — exercising these rights will not get you a worse service. This site is free to everyone either way.
We do not sell your personal information and we never have. Note that under the CPRA's broad definition, allowing third-party advertising cookies can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. If you want to stop that, opt out through Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info/choices, or block third-party cookies in your browser. You can also email info@bitumencalc.com with the subject "California privacy request" and we will action it within 45 days.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. International Visitors
Bitumen Calculator is accessible worldwide. If you are accessing the Service from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be transferred across international borders. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
